I’m John Baumann, a freelance Thai-to-English translator based in Richmond, Virginia. After earning my B.S. in Microbiology, I served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Kanchanaburi province, where I worked in the Royal Thai Government’s malaria control program. I have an M.S. in Biophysics and a Ph.D. in Public Policy, with a bioethics focus.

I launched Mango Apple in 2017, following a career as a nonprofit (NGO) leader in the areas of health, poverty reduction, and refugee resettlement. With over 35 years experience as a Thai language speaker, amateur scholar, and enthusiast, I now offer translation services full-time. I specialize in the areas of biomedicine, global health, and international development. I am glad to consult with you about your projects in advance to ensure a good fit.

I am a member of the American Translators Association and uphold the ATA’s Code of Ethics and Professional Practices.
